IS HANGS KURDISH PESHMERGA FIGHTERS FROM BRIDGE AMID MOSUL OFFENSIVE (GRAPHIC)

Amaq News released footage on October 20, 2016, showing two men dressed in fatigues, faces bloodied, hanging from a bridge.

Amaq reported that the men were Kurdish Peshmerga fighters, captured by IS during the battle for Mosul, the militant group’s last major stronghold in Iraq.

Iraqi forces, backed by US-led coalition air support, launched a campaign to retake Mosul from IS on October 17, 2016. After that, Peshmerga forces advanced on the city from three fronts, the Kurdish news outlet Rudaw reported.

This footage was shared by Amaq News, via its Telegram and Archive accounts. The same accounts have been repeatedly removed.

A process of monitoring Telegram channels for links to new instances of Amaq websites, and those websites for links to new Telegram channels, was necessary as web-hosting services and Telegram moved to shut down new accounts and pages.

Amaq reported that the fighters were captured during clashes near Mosul. The bridge seen in the video tallies with the Horia Bridge on the Tigris River in Mosul. More photos and videos of the bridge can be seen here, here, and here.

The video was released by Amaq on October 20, 2016, which tallies with reports on the Mosul offensive launched earlier in the week. Storyful cannot independently corroborate the date the video was filmed.

The video was recorded in Mosul and posted days after Peshmerga forces began their advance on the city.
